Kirk Bennett Law
Family Law - Criminal Law
Fairfield County, Connecticut
"Working with Kirk was by far the best attorney experience I've had in an unfortunately long line of attorney experiences. He was kind, patient and thorough. Kirk was always easily accessible and went above and beyond in managing our case. Kirk's effectiveness provided our family due measure while dealing with a very difficult and uncooperative counterpart. The level of care that Kirk took in our case is unprecedented in my experience."

Family Law
The goal is to make the process of divorce-or any family matter-as transparent and painless as possible for the client, particularly when children are involved. This requires not just the necessary legal knowledge, but also an awareness of the emotional and psychological components at play. The purpose is, to preserve the integrity of the family, even though it is no longer intact. I have always had compassion for children of divorce and take particular care in putting together a parenting plan.
Areas of Practice include: divorce; legal separation; paternity: child advocacy; child custody, visitation and support; pre and post nuptial agreements; domestic violence; restraining orders; post judgment modification/contempt proceedings; relocation.
Criminal Law
The stakes in facing criminal charges could not be higher. The need for a legal representative with the level headedness, experience, and tenacity to meet those charges is equally paramount. Your case is handled directly by me. I keep close contact with my clients and answer calls and emails promptly. I work together with the client to ensure the best possible outcome.
Areas of practice include: trials of misdemeanors and felonies, for example, drug charges, assault, sexual assault, family violence charges, juvenile matters, DWI charges and administrative hearings re: motor vehicle license suspensions.
Meet Attorney Kirk Bennett
Kirk Bennett has been practicing law for decades, first as a prosecutor in the Brooklyn (NY) District Attorney’s Office, where he was a member of that office’s Homicide Bureau. Upon entering private practice, and returning to Connecticut, he initiated a family law and criminal law practice in a Darien Law Firm.
Having tried dozens of misdemeanor, felony, and homicide cases during his prosecutorial career, the transition to criminal defense work and family matters (e.g. child custody, visitation, spousal and child support, property distribution) was rather seamless. What he learned upon entering private practice was the critical need to provide clients with a “comfort level”. Responding to client communication; involving the client in their case; truly caring about the client and their matter; all of these things play a role in providing that comfort level.
Kirk continued to concentrate on family and criminal law after leaving Darien and coming to Wilton, where he still practices. He has successfully defended clients facing charges of murder and sexual assault. He has expanded his family practice to include child advocacy, as either a guardian ad litem or attorney for the minor child(ren) of divorce. While more than an able litigator, Kirk has long experience in negotiating, or otherwise mediating divorce cases, in an effort to save time, money, and insulate children of divorce from the potential toxicity of that process.
Kirk is a graduate of Syracuse University, and received his law degree from the National Law Center at George Washington University.
Kirk is admitted to practice in the courts of Connecticut, New York, and Washington, D.C.
